🌍 Origin of Cod Fish

Cod has been consumed for centuries. The Portuguese began preserving cod by drying and salting it in the 15th century during maritime explorations. Since fresh cod wasn’t available locally, preserved cod became a staple.

It’s imported mostly from the North Atlantic (Norway, Iceland, and Canada) and has been deeply woven into Portuguese culinary identity ever since.
